You’ve likely heard the phrase “like water & oil.” It’s a way of saying that two things/people/circumstances just don’t go together. Like water and oil, they don’t mix.
In 2020, we had a set of circumstances that didn’t mix. There was a global pandemic. You might have heard something about it. That, combined with civil unrest, violence, deepening ideological divisions, and heart-breaking isolation led to this album. These things aren’t like water and oil, though. They don’t separate and stay segmented in neat layers. They mix like fire and oil. They ignite. They smoke and spread and they burned this country. None of us were left untouched. Water won’t put out an oil fire. There’s no easy fix.
An Independent Centrist Manifesto
I’m tired of being told who I am.
I’m tired of being told what I think.
I am tired of being labeled.
I’m tired of being sidelined.
And I’m tired of being pushed to the brink.
The left says, if […]
Book Review: The Wheel of Time
Author’s Note: I wrote this review back in 2015, when I was an editor and contributing author for a media review site that no longer exists. It was a fun time and a great crew […]
Saturday Socks
So, I’m standing there, staring at the back of my own head, and all I can think is, Well, crap. Not again.
This was the third time this week that I’d found myself suddenly staring at… well, […]

I love stories. I’ve always loved stories.
Stories are how we make sense of the world around us and how we express our own experiences. Everyone has a story and those stories define us.
I’ve worked with a wide range of clients to help them tell stories–from global leaders in the automotive and communications industries and GRAMMY award-winning artists to small churches and local businesses. Every single person and organization that I’ve worked with has the same need: they need to tell their story. The stories we tell (and the stories others tell about us) tell us who we are and what we’re capable of.
This site is where I tell MY stories.
These stories are mine. They’re stories about the world around me and, sometimes, they’re stories about me. Here you’ll find fiction (mostly sci-fi and fantasy), poetry (sometimes defined very loosely), reviews, and essays about stuff on my mind. This is my playground–the old-school kind with super tall monkey bars and rusty swings–so explore and have a good time.
Be careful, though, the slide is metal and gets hot in the sun.
Stories are who we are.
These stories are who I am.
So, what’s YOUR story?
